Welcome to HPC Vega, the Slovenia’s first and only peta-scale supercomputer!
Commissioned as the primary supercomputer system of the Slovenian national research infrastructures upgrade project "HPC RIVR" and delievered as the first of eight peta and pre-exa-scale EuroHPC Joint Undertaking systems hosted at the Institute of Information Science - IZUM in Maribor, it increases the computing capacity in Slovenia and the European Union as a whole and helps researchers as well as other users in the public and private sector.
HPC Vega is a driving force in innovation, helping Europe to compete globally in strategic areas, such as artificial intelligence, advanced data analytics (HPDA), personalized medicine, bioengineering, fighting climate change and the development of medicine and new materials.
The supercomputer "HPC Vega" was named after the greatest Slovenian mathematician Jurij Bartolomej Vega (1754-1802). More about his life and work is here.
The acquisition and operation of the EuroHPC supercomputer is jointly funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking through the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility and the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, as well as the Participating State Slovenia. The HPC RIVR project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and by the Ministry for Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia. The project is carried out within main priority axis no. 1: "International competitiveness of research, innovation and technological development in line with smart specialization for enhanced competitiveness and greening of the economy", priority investment 1.1 "Enhancing research and innovation (R&I) infrastructure and capacities to develop R&I excellence, and promoting Centres of competence, in particular those of European interest", specific objective 1.1.1 "Efficient use of the research infrastructure and development of knowledge/competences to improve national and international collaboration in the knowledge triangle" within the Operational Program for the Implementation of the EU Cohesion Policy 2014-2020.
